Meet the Smart Data innovators – 10 finalist teams and one non-financial fellow – working to create a prototype demonstrating the potential of Smart Data solutions for consumers and small businesses, across sectors including housing, finance, energy, and transport.

Finalist teams

Each team receives £50,000 and a package of tailored support to develop their solution using a unique synthetic data sandbox. In Autumn 2025, one winner and two runners-up will be chosen for additional funding.

Non-financial fellow

Mealia, one of the winners of the Smart Data Discovery Challenge, has secured investment from Founders Factory in collaboration with Nesta. Given that Challenge Works is part of Nesta, Mealia is no longer eligible to participate in the Challenge and has had to withdraw. However, as an eligible finalist of the Challenge Prize and a leading UK use case for retail smart data, Mealia will continue as a non-financial fellow.

Mealia will have access to the sandbox and mentoring from our advisory group, helping to share insights across the Smart Data ecosystem. Given the prize programme’s objective to generate insights across this ecosystem, DBT and the Prize delivery team are delighted to support Mealia’s continued association with the programme in this capacity.
